Roman Emperors

Usually a Roman Emperor is not chosen because of who they are or what they can do. They are chosen because of the family they were born into. If their father is the current emperor then that almost guarantees that they will be the next emperor. This will happen after his father dies or for some reason gets overthrown. For every leader there was always a tyrant, such as Claudius and Nero.
It was not until the end of the Roman period that they actually chose an emperor that could support there empire. If you were a Roman emperor then you would stay that emperor for life. The only way to no longer be emperor is either to be killed or overthrown. Once you were emperor there is no way to exit power.
